Ewww!

What is Nelly Furtado thinking?

In this case, blonde is definitely not more fun.

More tempting than a tray of pink cupcakes

I really think I should unsubscribe to whole lot of the daily newsletters, blogs and "news" reports that currently fill my inbox and make me feel a whole lot more popular than I actually am. Reason? There's just way too much temptation! Currently on my lust-list...

These TDF chunky heels as see on model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn, but in a much more favourable price range from the ever-amazing Topshop. (Thanks for the tip off Who What Wear Daily!) Luckily they are out of stock right now.

Awesome invention!

The winner of why-didn't-someone-think-of-it-sooner award, in the category of fashion, goes to Milk and Honey's new range of "Sweet Cheeks" jeans. They're designed with a bra for your bum! Genius designer Gill Milligan realised that not bums are created equal, and so the "A Fit" and B Fit" jeans were born - A if you've got a boyish bum, and B for curvier girls. Can't wait to try a pair on!

A new woman

As I travelled on the bus to work this morning, I felt a bit different. I couldn't quite pick what it was, but something was sparking my memory of another time... how coincidental that I had sprayed on a fragrance that has been buried in my cupboard since my boy and I moved out together (about a year ago), and that I had forgotten all about. The scent was Tommy Girl and it was given to me by my lovely friend GWAS a couple of years ago for my birthday (not sure how long the shelf life is on fragrances... should check on that).

Anywho, the scent was so familiar, and my subconscious obviously had a fondness for it because I was taken back to dates with my boy, girls' nights out, and a different job when it used to be my daily spritz. Just like a good song, scents are huge memory boosters - they bring back certain people into your life, remind you of a time when you lived life a little differently... and yes, make you feel like a new woman.

I currently have a rotation of about six fragrances that I flit between daily, depending on my mood:

Escada Sentiment - I love it because my boy gave it to me last Christmas and it has a heart-shaped lid. Aww!
DKNY Be Delicious - one of my absoulte faves. It's so fruity and fresh and smells like fresh green apples. Yum!
Stella McCartney - more musky, and one I save for night.
J.Lo Live Luxe - a little tacky, I know, but the bottle is cute and it smells sweet and fruity, and I like it anyway.
Diesel Life - It's great because it's not one I would have normally picked myself (I got it free at the launch), but it smells delicious!
Kenzo Flower - a gift for my birthday from a very close friend, and one of my new faves.

Others on my fave list are Ralph Blue, Vera Wang Princess, Missoni Acqua, and Marc Jacobs Daisy.

What are some of your favourites and what memories do they hold for you?

The personal touch

This morning I was listening to Merrick and Rosso as they were discussing wedding invitations on Nova... as in, what should be written on them. Searching for unconventional ideas, the opened the phone lines and one girl called up saying her friends had sent their invitations out through Facebook. Facebook! They may as well have sent a text, something on the lines of: We're gettin hitch'd. C u on Sat 14 Feb @ Robbo's place. BYO snags & beers.

Now, I'm not getting married or anything, but being a bit of a word nerd, and also a lover of pretty stationery and thoughtful greeting cards, I was appalled! I still like to buy Christmas cards every year (I used to make them myself but time is a bit tighter these days) and post them out. While it's nice to receive a text from your friends on Christmas day, a mass "Merry Christmas guys. Hope you have a good one!" doesn't quite have the same sentimental touch. I also like making rum balls to hand out with my cards... but now I'm just starting to sound a little scary Martha Stewart, aren't I?

It doesn't take long to sit down and write a sweet message to the ones closest to you. And I almost enjoy the giving part more than the receiving at Christmas. So with that in mind, I guess I better get myself down to Cardiology at lunch! Better still, I should buy some from here to help out local charities when they need it most.

Christmas day is five weeks away today : )

Need a Russh

Just when I was about to post on the torture of waiting for a new issue of Russh to come out (which according to their media kit, is about three weeks overdue), I just logged on to their myspace page to find this pretty little cover and an on-sale date of this Wednesday! Hooray... thankfully I am getting paid on Thursday and can get my fix! : )

Just a couple of sneak peeks to get you excited...

What magazines would you spend your grocery money on each month? What titles do you subscribe to, and why? Leave a comment and let me know!

Weekly wrap-up

In light of the miserable, rainy weather that has dampened everyone's mood this week (stop gloating those of you in sunny north Queensland), there's still plenty of things to be smiling about. It is Friday afternoon, you know!

Lots of pretty new glossies went on sale this week - Cosmopolitan, Harpers, Marie Claire and Vogue - the latter of which I am currently pouring over while trying to look busy at work. Kristy Hinze graces the cover, 12 years after her first Vogue cover (see eds letter page for a cute pic). Kristy is a Sunshine Coast girl like me (she be from the lovely beachside town of Coolumn, near Noosa), and has recently been signed as the face of Sportscraft. Being that she's a keen diver, golfer, horse rider and studier of Marine Biology (phew); her outdoorsy personality and athletic physique make her a perfect choice.

Score yourself some free doughnut love from Krispy Kreme (sorry Queenslanders, none for you) - simply go to krispykreme.com.au/election07 to vote for your fave doughnut candidate in their cute election and you will be sent a voucher entitling you to six free doughnuts, of the flavour most voted for, the day after the Federal Election. Yum!

It's almost time for Moonlight cinema again! Movie listings will be up online at moonlight.com.au from Monday, and if you've never been, you must go at least once this summer (if you live in a capital city)! I love going each year to see Breakfast at Tiffanys. Hopefully it won't be rained out too many times this season.

In a week when Nicole Kidman wore a see-through dress to a premiere and Kate Moss did NOT top a best-dressed list, stylist to the stars, Rachel Zoe, has released her book: Style from A to Zoe. The Art of Fashion, Beauty and Everything Glamour. And even though the book has no mentions of Nicole Richie at all (due to their public "divorce"), there's plenty of other celeb tips and tricks to satisy your interest. It's currently on my wish list at amazon.com

And if all that's not enough to pick you up, did I tell you there's only six weeks til Christmas holiday time? : )
